Every November in the different regions of Mexico, communities celebrate the temporary return of their deceased relatives and friends: the Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos). It is a syncretic festival between pre-Hispanic culture and Catholicism, which given the pluricultural and pluriethnic character of the country, has given place to diverse regional expressions, transmitted from generation to generation over time, which finds different meanings and evocations according to the community, group or indigenous people, who carry them out, both in rural towns and cities.
Review
On Nov 2, 2024, we will visit two famous locations in Puebla where the Day of the Dead celebrations are experienced with beautiful artistic and cultural expressions. You visit Huaquechula, a picturesque town, known for its history and traditions, to explore its famous altars placed in the town’s homes. Visitors are welcome to admire their altars, present their condolences to the bereaved and hear family stories. We also visit the magical town of Atlixco, where Death dresses in flowers. We will admire the city arquitecture and flowers, street art and murals that recreate the history of the place. There will be free time to eat at the local market for regional food for lunch.
